Pre-Race Program

U.S. Senator
Tina Smith

United States Senate, Minnesota

Tina Smith serves as United States Senator for Minnesota. She’s dedicated the last 30 years of her life to working with and serving the people of Minnesota. Her focus has always been bringing people together to talk, listening to everyone—even if they disagree—and turning those conversations into results for Minnesota.

Tina came to Minnesota in 1984 with her husband Archie and started her career at General Mills, eventually leaving to start her own small business. Around this same time, she started volunteering on campaigns in her community. In 2003, when she saw that Minnesota women and families weren’t able to access the health care they needed, she went to work at Planned
Parenthood Minnesota. After that she served as chief of staff to both Minneapolis Mayor R. T. Rybak and Governor Mark Dayton. In 2014, she ran on a ticket with Governor Dayton and was
elected as Minnesota’s 48 th Lieutenant Governor. In 2018, she was appointed by Governor Dayton to the U.S. Senate. Later that year, she won a special election and was elected as Minnesota’s junior United States Senator.

Tina and Archie have been married for more than 30 years. They have two sons, Sam and Mason, who also live with their wives, Emily and Julia, in Minnesota.
